दुर्गा घिमिरे

Also known as Durga Acharya

Currently President, ABC Nepal

About

Durga Ghimire was active in Nepal’s pro-democracy student movement in the 1970s. She spent time in jail for this activism. In 1987, she founded ABC Nepal together with fellow activists.

At first, the organisation focused on agroforestry, farming that combines growing crops and trees, and basic health. It later became one of the first groups in Nepal to publicly campaign against the trafficking of women and girls into brothels across the border in India. Ghimire has continued this work for almost four decades, through writing, advocacy, and advising on policy.
