Also known as Govinda K.C.
Orthopedic surgeon and activist known for repeated hunger strikes demanding reform of Nepal's medical education system
About
Govinda KC spent decades as an orthopedic surgeon and professor at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. He also carried out humanitarian medical work in remote parts of Nepal. He did the same work in international disaster zones, including Haiti and the Philippines.
Since 2012, he has become Nepal’s most persistent civic campaigner against corruption and the commercialisation of medical education. He has gone on more than twenty extended hunger strikes, often risking his own health. Through these strikes, he has demanded transparent appointments, protected scholarships, and stronger oversight of private medical colleges.
