About
Hikmat Kumar Karki has been a central figure in Koshi Province’s politics since the province was created. This politics has often been unstable, with different parties sharing power in shifting coalitions. He first served as the province’s Minister for Internal Affairs and Law. He then rose to Chief Minister across several short-lived governments.
He returned to the post of Chief Minister in May 2024. Amid frequent changes of coalition partners at the provincial level, he has become one of the more lasting holders of the office.
