Deceasedलखन थापा मगर
Nepal's first recognised martyr, executed for organising political movement against Rana rule decades before the four martyrs
About
Lakhan Thapa Magar started a political movement against the autocratic Rana regime, in his native Gorkha. This was years before the more widely remembered four martyrs of 1941 took up a similar cause in Kathmandu.
For his defiance, he was executed by hanging from a tree at the Mankamana temple complex in 1933. The Government of Nepal recognises him as the country’s first martyr in the long struggle against Rana rule.
