Manoj Kumar Sharma

मनोज कुमार शर्मा

33rd and current Chief Justice of Nepal, appointed ahead of three more senior judges

Currently Chief Justice of Nepal, Supreme Court of Nepal

About

Manoj Kumar Sharma joined Nepal’s judiciary as an additional High Court judge in 2013. He was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2019.

In May 2026, the Constitutional Council recommended him for Chief Justice. This was over three colleagues who ranked ahead of him in seniority. The Council cited his stronger record of resolving pending cases. This was a break from convention, the usual way of doing things, and it drew some internal disagreement. Even so, the Parliamentary Hearing Committee unanimously endorsed, or officially approved, his appointment.

He was sworn in as the 33rd Chief Justice of Nepal on 19 May 2026. His term runs until 2032.
