Laxmi Prasad Devkota is remembered in Nepal as “Mahakavi,” the Great Poet. Writing primarily in Nepali, he brought Sanskrit literary tradition to a wider audience and helped establish a modern romantic movement in Nepali writing. His 1930 narrative poem Muna Madan was later adapted into Nepal’s official submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2003.
