About
Siddhicharan Shrestha was born in Okhaldhunga, while his father was posted there for government service. The district remained close to his heart throughout his life. He celebrated it in his best-loved poem, “Mero Pyaro Okhaldhunga.”
He studied poetry under the Nepal Bhasa poet Siddhi Das Amatya. He then became known for revolutionary verse, in both Nepal Bhasa and Nepali, that stirred resistance to Rana rule. This literary defiance cost him an 18-year prison sentence.
