Sudan Gurung

सुदन गुरुङ

Also known as Sudhan Gurung

Home Minister of Nepal; founder of Hami Nepal and a leading figure of the 2025 Gen Z protest movement

Currently Minister of Home Affairs, Government of Nepal

About

Sudan Gurung worked as a DJ in Kathmandu before founding the NGO Hami Nepal. This organisation coordinated disaster relief, after the 2015 earthquake and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He became one of the most visible leaders of the September 2025 Gen Z protests. These protests were against government corruption and a short-lived social media ban. He mobilised, or organised, demonstrators through Discord and Instagram, in the unrest that led to Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli’s resignation.

He was elected to parliament in the March 2026 election, on a Rastriya Swatantra Party ticket. Since then, he has served as Nepal’s Minister of Home Affairs. He briefly resigned in April 2026, over questions about his financial dealings. After an internal inquiry, an official investigation, he was reappointed in June 2026.
