Poet, lyricist, and novelist known for writing on women's issues and among the few Nepali writers addressing LGBTQ themes
About
Usha Sherchan left her hometown of Pokhara for Kathmandu, to pursue further education. Her parents had urged her toward marriage instead, after school. She went on to become a celebrated figure in Nepali literature.
Across three poetry collections, a book of short stories, a novel, and lyrics for five music albums, she has written candidly about women’s bodies, desires, and social constraints, the limits society places on people’s choices. People recognise her as one of the few Nepali writers to portray LGBTQ characters and themes in her fiction.
