K.P. Sharma Oli
केपी शर्मा ओली
Also known as Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, KP Oli
38th Prime Minister of Nepal, serving three non-consecutive terms (2015–16, 2018–21, 2024–25); resigned amid the September 2025 Gen Z protests
About
K.P. Sharma Oli’s family lost their land to flooding when he was a child. As a teenager, he was drawn into politics through anti-royal movements. He later spent 14 years in prison for his activism, before Nepal’s shift to democracy.
Across his three terms as Prime Minister, his time in office was often marked by controversy. Critics pointed to his sharp rhetoric, or public speaking style, and accusations of cronyism, giving jobs or favours to friends rather than qualified people. In his final term, he put a social media ban into force. This helped trigger the youth-led Gen Z protests, which forced his resignation in September 2025.
