Sher Bahadur Deuba

शेरबहादुर देउवा

Five-time Prime Minister of Nepal (1995–97, 2001–02, 2004–05, 2017–18, 2021–22); President of the Nepali Congress since 2016

Currently President, Nepali Congress

About

Sher Bahadur Deuba grew up in a remote village, in Nepal’s far-western hills. This childhood was far removed from the Kathmandu political establishment he came to dominate.

He served five terms as Prime Minister, the most of any individual in Nepal’s democratic era. These terms span the restoration of multiparty democracy, the transition away from royal rule, the Maoist peace process, and Nepal’s federal restructuring. His career reflects a pattern of consensus-oriented dealmaking, meaning deals aimed at getting most sides to agree, though this approach has sometimes drawn criticism.
